Wikicontent
It has become clear that some sort of agreed upon and understood procedure on how to use this wiki as part of our decision making process needs to be established. When and how to get to this issue remains up in the air. However I do want to record a recommendation that Bob has made which has the support of at least Sabo and Diane/Cricket:
"My recommendation would be that anyone who wants to take ownership of a given topic should be allowed to create that page on the wiki and enter their first draft on the topic's main page. Discussions can then take place and revisions recommended. The original owner can then decide what changes to incorporate, archive the original, and update the main page. (Owner ship can even change during these discussion periods.) This process can repeat a number of times until the owner feels a concensus may have been reached. At that time the issue can be presented as a proposal and voted on."
My most important comment is to express the profound gratitude I feel to Sabo and Pablito for setting all this up!!!!!!! I really love the direction it is going, and it has become a tool that I am learning to use very quickly. I hope I am not making your lives difficult by using it as much as I have been with my limited knowledge of the workings of this tool - please feel free to tell me if I am.
My intention in setting up this page is to have a place where we can put issues as they come up that can be dealt with later, but we don't want to forget. So these are some questions I am aware of (some of which are being answered as we go).--Diane Schurr 11:56, 2 Dec 2006 (MST)
- Who has access to which parts of the wiki, both to be able to read and to modify?
- Current status (12/3/2006) - With the current version of the wiki software, anyone can read all the pages, but only members can edit pages because I made accounts for them and Pablito disabled people creating their own accounts. Pablito can add some files to a list that will not allow anyone to modify the file. We plan to do this with the Mission page once it has final consensus. We can do that with other pages as necessary.
- Soon (perhaps in December) the software will be updated so we will be able to create user groups and hopefully control the access (none, read, edit) for each page by group.
- The mandela (pentagram and tree symbol) that is on each page and on the web-site - is this a symbol/logo for our group that we all agree to?
The history of this symbol is that I(Diane/Cricket) drew this in 2005 when I was in the process of creating a vision for a community with a different group than those who are now involved. It expresses for me, in a non-verbal way, what my heart's desire is for the community that I want to spend the rest of my life with/in. I would be honored and thrilled if this community wanted to adopt it as our logo, and I can still hold it as my personal heart's desire if another logo comes forward that seems more inclusive or if there is anyone who does not feel like this is an appropriate symbol for our community.
I thought of some other questions that I wanted to record here. If any one has answers or ideas, please do share! --Diane Schurr 12:15, 26 Jan 2007 (MST)
- I'm not sure if I am using the right technical terms here, but what type of backing up of the web-site and at this point especially our wiki is the site that is hosting these two things doing? In other words, how safe are we from some sort of system crash that would cause us to loose everything that we are storing on the wiki?
- At some point I would like to have a discussion about how we will make decisions about what goes on the web-site. Are we okay with leaving that up to Sabo's discretion? Or do we want to establish a committe, the whole group decide everything, anyone just telling Sabo what to put on the web-site? Are Pablito and Sabo comfortable with the present arrangements? What are their expectations of how much responsibility they have taken on?
My personal feelings about this particular issue is that I am perfectly comfortable with the way we are doing it for now and I can forsee this becoming more of an issue as we grow and become more concerned about what sort of "public face" we present. I am also aware of the significant commitment of time and expertise that we are expecting from Sabo or anyone willing to take on this task and I would like that to be acknowledged in some way. Which brings us around to the tracking hours and what expectations we have of each other issues that also need to be delved into. All in good time, I'm sure, just wanted to go ahead and see if anyone else wanted to start commenting on this issue now. --Diane Schurr 12:15, 26 Jan 2007 (MST)
